A buddy of mine took me out for the first time to catch Cohos with the possibility of some Kings. He delivered on both and introduced me to a new spot which is perfect for my style of fishing. Let me start of by saying that I have never seen so many people willing to stand so close together for hours at a time. They must be anglers! On the way to our spot we drove by the military camp and saw what seem like hundreds of cars. I have never seen this many in one spot and this includes the upper green and puke soccer fields. It makes the soccer fields parking look like a 7-eleven compare to a shopping mall. No joke! Looking over the bridge and down the river as far as I can see through the turns, people lined up almost touching each other. I was so glad that wasn't the spot I told my friend. He laughed and said we have to pay where we are going. This is a very good sign indeed as I can't see how people would land fish with little bank without nets and help. We finally get to the gates of our destination and pay our $10 per person entry fee to this campground. Yes I said $10 each person but I was glad to pay if it meant spacing of anglers. So through a bumpy dirt road and we arrive to see about 20 cars parked by 6:40am. Very impressive still to still see that many people willing to pay and be there that early (guess I'm not that crazy or alone:-).

So on to fishing. I spent the fist hour and a lot of gear figuring out I have too much weight on my drift setup. Once I zeroed on a 1.5in piece of lead from my 1oz cannonball, it was fish on! My first hookup was a huge silver (maybe 18lbs) but I lost it by the bank. We fished in a tricky spot with a little middle island with one opportunity to pull a fish up on it's point or you will end up fighting the fish at the bottom of the fast moving water until the fish is spent. My next fish was a King that took me for a long journey down river on my Coho setup (12lb main 10lb leader). I land him 15 or so minutes later a the bottom of the island. I decide to kept my one hatch King seeing how it is my first this year. Next I bonk a small Coho then release another dark hatch King. I end the day with another 4-5lb Coho.

Fun day and caught my limit in three hours worth of fishing. Please be careful crossing the river guys, a man had to be saved in the very spot. You will be waist deep in fast water. If you need assistance crossing, you really shouldn't be there. Good luck all!
