Hit the river for an hour and half at lunch today. Tried spinners, spoons, drifting corkie and yarn, drifting DNs. Nada. Nets still in. Saw a few fish caught. Nothing while I was there though. Managed to make up for some of my previous losses in found gear, which was a plus. Even snagged a setup with one of my spoons which turned out to be a 50/50 DN. Cool. No fish, but fishing on my lunch break ain't bad.

You got some time in even if it was during 'net time'. Next best thing to catching fish is catching gear previously lost IMO :-)

Funny story... When I was around 10, I was at a summer bible camp and everyday during lunch time me and a few friends would go to the creek and try to catch fish. One day we are down there and all of a sudden an unopened beer in a can goes floating by, so I hop in and grab it . Then we all squeal and try to convince each other to drink it before going to the afternoon bible classes. (Kids, hard to maintain focus on priorities). Of course since I found it I drank it and after pounding a full Bud Ice my little 10 year old buzz kicked in. Whoa.

Next day we all raced back to the river, but this time we did not even put a rod in the water, instead we all eagerly waited for the elusive beer fish to arrive... and sure enough it did, 3 cold ones freshly delivered. Whoa this time I was not alone...me and two others arrived to our afternoon class sporting a more than relaxed attitude towards all things biblical. The teacher started wondering

Day 3... by now our group of boys had increased from 3 friends to 7 the word was out that this Creek produced. While most of the boys sat around waiting for beers to arrive via this stream of divinity, myself and two of my closest friends realized the source of these miracles must be discovered. We headed up stream looking for either an eddy of righteous brews, or the source of these blessed beverages. Almost off the camps property we arrived at a small cabin looking structure where there was a massive bonfire smoldering, and all around young adults passed out, some in sleeping bags and some just curled up in the fetal position. In the creek was a nicely constructed pin of rocks and drift wood, full of beers keeping cold. Unfortunately the engineer of this structure had a large space between two boulders that was allowing these beers to escape. Like three navy seals we swam across filled our pockets and shirts with beers, and then proceeded to increase the size of the opening in the pin so more beers would be emancipated and later procured by a much more appreciative youth.

We returned to the group with about 20 beers, more than enough for everyone to have a few. Being only 10 and each of us literally pounding them to make it back to bible class in time, well, the buzz turned into more of a plaster. We arrived to class a bit late, rather wet and laughing away. We kicked the door open not caring about what the teacher or others might say. The whole class turned around to see 7 wasted boys acting like they owned the place, two light weights puked right away... and the show was over. The creek became off limits, the rest of the week we were watched like hawks and my parents were less than pleased with my choices.

I however was hooked on fishing.....

LOL after reading jumpinjim's funny story I guess the next best thing to cacthing fish would be catching floaters of the beverage kind.
