I was invited to fish the Willapa River on some private property that belonged to a friend of mine. Left Olympia at 5AM. clear and cold.Arrived at my friends house in Raymond coffee and breakfast waiting for me. What a treat. He said he would not be fishing but to follow him to the River. He introduced me to Gary the owner of the property who told me that eggs under a bobber has been working so i rigged up to the sound of fish jumping on the far bank. Forty five minutes later Gary came down to check on how I was doing.Ihad two bright fish to the bank one hatchery and one native. I was allowed one more fish.He brought his pole and said he was going to throw some spoones at the tail out around the corner. He was back with two natives. Had his limit in a half hour.He said to try it down there. First cast bobber down and a slow hook set by me. Missed the fish. Two cast later the fight was on with a big buck going airborne what a battle.
But he was finally brought to shore for my limit.Went up to thank Gary for his hospitality and put fish and gear away.He told me to come back next week as his kids are going to be fishing this weekend.Wow what a treat. Great day. Nice weather. New friend. Can't ask for more.
