Decided to give it a go this morning on the highway side of Reiter. Arrived before daybreak to a parking lot with a light coating of snow but manageable wind and rain. I usually head down to the cable hole and work my way back towards the parking lot but I have not had a lot of luck there lately and the wind can be a big problem. So I picked a spot on the bank and worked it with jigs and spoons. Very little was happening on either side of the river and I never did see a fish caught on the hatchery side which is strange because the river was in very good shape. I saw one fish caught above me and two below me and the weather was alternating between rain, wind and snow. After a few hours of no luck around the upper part of the bank I started working my way down river with an idea of heading to the cable hole to find some fish. As I worked my way down I talked to several dejected fishermen returning from the cable hole with reports of no fish. Glad I didn't hoof it down there but I wasn't doing much where I was either and the wind was picking up. Decided to work one last spot and then head home for the Seahawk game. Worked all lanes of travel that I could reach in the wind and was ready to quit because the wind and rain were increasing. As a last resort I started throwing my float and jig as far as I could into the wind which was blowing a large belly of line between me and the float but the bobber was working properly for several feet of the drift so what the heck. About ten casts into this last desperate attempt the bobber goes down and I quickly reel up a boatload of slack line and luckily stick the fish, a nice 6 - 7 pound buck. I recorded the catch, packed up and left wet but happy I gave it the last effort and hit a fish on a painfully slow day. I heard Saturday was quite a bust also which is puzzling because the run should really be doing better by now. Glad I was one of the a lucky ones today. Tight lines.
