Well I can confirm the reports from others, the Skookumchuck is slow. After that first pushing of early fish came through, they seem to have got stuck in the Chehalis. I'd like to thank Salmon Barry and company for fishing with me through the tough times.

First thing in the morning at the spot we were floating bait and had two nice takedowns that just didn't penetrate. After that the action slowed to a crawl. We practiced our techniques, bass style casting and toured the secret spots though, and then had a killer lunch with homemade bread and salmon dip (Thanks Barry, that was delicious!) A few firetruck silver later and the day was gone, and we called it a defeat.

Give the river a few weeks for those fish to find there way into it. The Chehalis is doing well between Centralia and the Satsop, so any day now those fish will load up the Skook. For now, I'd recommend the Wynoochee, the fish have made it that far already.

were you guys fishing the fields below the hatchery? Spent the afternoon hitting every open patch of water I could find from the cables crossing on down, till I ran out of time. Probably crossed paths with you if you were in that area.

Thanks for the great day Nate! You forgot to mention the comic relief I brought along by checking out the water temp by slipping into the river up to my armpits! It was cold and thank goodness it happened towards the end of the day as all my fleece under my waders was soaked!! lol

Falling in is never all that funny when you have to deal with swampy waders! I'm glad you brought some spares though, because going all day wet and cold is no fun.
