Finally made it back to the Skookumchuck with my brother yesterday. Arrived at the river a little later than intended. Fished all day. It was a cold and sunny most of the day. Later in the afternoon there were a couple of crazy hail/sleet squals that made me glad I had my rain gear on.

Went 0/3, regardless I'm satisfied. The first fish was a nice chrome hen in the 12-15 lbs range. Got a good look at her. She rolled and hit the surface when I set the hook. Then came unbuttoned a few seconds later. Never saw the second fish, but it felt large as well. Felt an epic series of head shakes when I set the hook. Then it charged across river to the opposite bank, changed direction and started peeling line up river. Fought it for about a minute trying to get control and keep it from spooling me. Unfortunately, I wasn't in an area where I could follow and it came unbuttoned too as I tried to coax it to turn. The third fish was smaller, but energetic. It erupted to the surface. Appeared to be a 4-5 lbs doe. Also charged across river and went ballistic near the opposite bank then spit the hook Wish I could have landed one of them. Either way, It felt good to get out on the river and fight some energetic fish!

As an added bonus, right before we left I saw one of the most epic aerial displays I've ever personally seen. There was a fisherman on the opposite bank fishing about 50 yards above me. He hooked a large 20+ lbs buck that did 5 complete aerials in about 15 seconds. Never seen anything like it before in person!! Amazingly he landed the beast too.
