Sprague is still tough to fish for walleye this year. On 5.14.05 I thought the rain and clouds would make the fish active most of the day, and it did, but you had to be creative to make them hit.

First off, if you like to fish crankbaits to the shore cover, expect to clean your bait of slime-moss on almost every cast. The slime-moss covers the rocks down to at least 4 feet in depth, deeper in spots, and it is about as thick of a coat as I have ever seen at sprague for this time of year. I am sure that the plankton will raise to the top and form the "pea soup" the lake is famous for as soon as the coulds clear, but for now it is mostly clear with slime on the bottom.

Trolling was slow fishing at best, I saw one sub-legal fish caught by another boat this way, and I caught one sub-legal this way as well, but others may have done better.

I won't tell you what I was doing, but I will tell you to forget you are fishing for walleye, or bass, or crappie, and do something else creative, and you might catch the fish as I did - 5 sub-legal walleye, 3 walleye up to 20", 5 smallmough bass (14-3/4" largest), one largemouth bass, and one crappie.

In short, the fish were catchable, but you had to work to find them. I fished over 12 hours for what I caught, than was run off by thunder and lightning.
