Camped at Money Creek and got an early start on the Skykomish on Friday morning. I landed my first native steelhead at 8am...a beautiful fish that my buddy and I figured was a late winter run in the 10-12 lb range. It took my float down and dove straight to the bottom, which made me first think it was a king and then think it was a snag before some strong head shakes gave it away. We fished all day on foot all up and down the river and managed to avoid the crowds which made it even better. Overall a great day exploring some new holes and trying out some new gear acquired over the spring.

We didn't fish at Money Creek, but I definitely saw some fishy water just down river of the campground. I've heard that the sportsman's club in Skykomish use to truck fish up over the falls, but I wasn't sure if they were still doing that or not and we were pretty short on time. It was great camping there, as we were on the water within twenty minutes of leaving camp. We returned at about 11:30 to break down camp before heading back out to fish a couple spots on the lower part of the river. Very convenient for two guys from Seattle who normally take an hour and a half to get to the Sky...if I had slept in my waders I bet I could have been on the water in ten minutes, and I wouldn't have even needed a tent!

I didn't know the south fork had a winter run... I thought it was just a summer run...
