Steelhead
Morning

I have been fishing steelhead for 45 years with better than average success
I'm talking hooking 5 fish on a single trip as no big deal even when no one
else is catching and or hooking anything.
On Friday July 19th I experienced the fishing trip of a lifetime
I began fishing at 4am and finished at 930am in 5 and a half hours I hooked and or
landed 40 plus steelhead and I believe that the number could have been higher
had I not retained my second and last fish of the day.
After reflecting on this I found that the only thing that compared to this was
the day that my one and only child was born.
I hope that all of you reading this have a day like this in your lifetime.
Have fun everyone.

So doing the math you were hooking, fighting, and landing a fish nearly every 8 minutes for 5.5 hrs straight!? That seems like a bit of a stretch...

40 plus? I don't know about that. There's a few fish in the sky but enough for a 40 plus day.. You would have to show me more then one picture to believe on that.
If you did landed all those fish, you should have bought a lotto ticket on the way home.

I'd never have a 40+ day to be honest, would keep the first 2 clipped fish and be done. Not to mention it'd take a quantum leap in my steelheading skill to even worry about it.
Nice work BootLegger! Those are some chromers!

40 steelhead? that would be about 10% of the total reported hatchery summer fish at reiter. You went out and hooked 10% of the population in one trip???? I talked to a guy on the Wallace this last fall and said he hooked 20+ Steelhead out of the cedar hole in one trip. Maybe your the same guy? None the less nice pair of chromers!

While I'd love to believe that there would be 40 fish in a hole, unless you're fishing the hatchery trap, I'm going to call exaggeration. I've had days where I've limited the boat, but that's a really good day on the Sky. Even at Reiter on a good day so far there will be only about 20 fish caught for everyone, most the time it's 10 or 15 on a hot day. I could believe 10 fish in five hours, but like BBlakely said, if this is true, you just caught 10% of the entire run of steel that the Sky will get.

Please, really? I have been Stealheading since the 60's Driftboating since the early eighties all over Wa,Or and Alaska. Maybe in Alaska, but not in 5 1/2 hours. and not on the Sky. That's one Steelhead landed every 81/2 Minutes for 5 1/2 sraight Hours. you would need to hook a fish almost every single cast in that time, and land evry fish hooked. Let me guess they were all 15lbs too.Come on Bootlegger you will feel better when you come clean.

Yeah unless you fishing the hatchery pond 40 is almost impossible but who knows maybe he found the honey hole or something.

No honey hole with 40 Steelhead on the Sky all willing to bite nonstop for 5 1/2 hours. Come on guys don't drink Bootleggers Cool Aid. Or what ever he was drinking. Do the Math. Not even close to reality.

I caught 33 steelhead in a day once... but that was on the Grande Ronde river at the mouth of the hatchery amongst a school of hundreds of dark steelhead... 40+ summer chromers on the sky? Musta found one hell of a large pod of fish. Haha
