After spending an hour and a half on the Snohomish this morning with nothing to show for our efforts, my friend Roy Hari, and my fishing partner, Joey, and I decided to head up to the Skagit to see check out this "honey hole" that Roy keeps bragging about.
We had lines in the water by 9:15 with high hopes of at least getting a bump or two so we could at least have a fish story to tell. I gotta say, even with the late start it wasn't long before our hopes were realized. Second cast . . . BAM! Fish on! It was my first salmon this year and was also the first and biggest of the day, which earned me 10 bucks from mine and Joey's ongoing bet (sweet!). Not 10 minutes later and Roy was into his first fish and shortly thereafter it was Joey's turn. It felt good to finally have something to show for my efforts! We fished until noon and managed two fish apiece and we all left feeling good about being able to salvage a poor start to our morning.
All fish were caught on the standard Pink jig with a pink hootchie and with the exception of one fish, all were caught within 20 feet from the shore, which can really test your equipment when they strike short like that. We were fishing below Edgewater Park, down by where the river forks.
All in all a good day on the river with good friends.
