Holy cow! Fishing has been fantastic! We're catching fish left and right out here. Small and stealthy is the key, I know, I keep saying it, but it's the truth. Stand back and stand low and these summer run will bite. They WILL BITE. The reason they go lockjaw is because you've spooked them. If they see a weight, or line, they're not happy about it. I know it's easy to get impatient, but put some time between your casts. The river is so clear that with a good pair of polarized glasses you'll know that the fish are in the hole when you look closely, watch them. You'll see how they respond to your presentation, and you'll adjust it accordingly. If you let the hole rest for a while, these fish will return to their spot, and reset the bite. They don't have a very long memory, so if you wait, they're going to turn on again if you don't spook them.
That being said, I have a few dates available, and I can't reccomend these trips more for the beginner angler. I'm confident that you will learn everything you need to know, and your shot at hooking a summer run is the best right now than it will be all season.
As for the next few weeks, I'll be focusing on steelhead, and then I'll turn my attention to the pinks in the lower river for a while. The pink trip dates start the 15th and I'll fish them to about the first or second week of September. After that I'll be focusing on the peninsula and the fall kings on the Queets and Humptulips. I've already booked a few trips for then, and these are going to be very popular. I'm one of the few guides licensed to guide the Olympic National Park, and the park has some pretty darn big fish coming back.
Unfortunately due to rising fuel costs and higher cost of of business I'm going to have to raise my rates starting September 1st. My rates right now are super reasonable, and if you book a trip during August you'll be able to grab them now, so if you've been thinking about it, let's get you fishing. As always, I'd like to thank the guys that have been fishing with me and sharing in my adventures, and I hope everyone can get out to take advantage of the stellar fishing that we've been having!
