I wouldn't say the Puyallup is hot just yet. Was on the river from 5am to 11am. Went 1/10 landing a pink...and everyone had the same issue, they just kept popping off the darn hook.

From 5am to 8:30am was steady bites for everyone...then it just stopped and was super slow for the rest of the time we were there.

We were off Houston Rd by the Cannery and there were less people fishing than I've seen recently...which is ok with me.

Within the first 30 minutes of being there I hooked into something big...I'm guessing a King. He was taking drag and I tried to slow him down a bit by holding the line with my finger and boom...he snapped my leader and took off. And I was running 20 lb test for my leader. It was a big fish. Wish I would have brought him in...but it's a learning experience.

All in all...still a bit slow. Give it another few days, maybe another week and the main group of pinks will arrive. Yesterday's report from WDFW was that they are still up north off the coast of Vancouver Island, BC. They will make it down here in about a week.

But there are fish in the river.

Don't forget that I don't have the experience that you guys do. I'm using 20 lb leader because I got tired of snapping leaders on rocks and fish. I'm sure I don't know how to play a bigger fish correctly, and heck, that first fish of the morning today was something big and he even snapped my 20 lb leader...so if in fact you're trying to accuse me of something...there's your explanation on why I moved up to a 20 lb leader. I've tried lower weight line and I snap off too often.

Heck, if you buy pre-snelled Gamakatsu hooks, they come snelled with 20 lb leader...is Gamakatsu promoting snagging?
