Went out to the reformatory hole for pinks today, not a single bite. I don't know what I was doing wrong, because everybody around us was catching fish like crazy. We tried everything from plunking sand shrimp to casting jigs to jigs tipped with sand shrimp. We twitched, we floated, we tried everything. Nothing.

Then I tied on a "Nightmare" AeroJig for the heck of it just before we were about to leave. Tipped it with a mini sand shrimp tail and smothered it in shrimp flavored Mike's. Second cast, right at the end of my drift, bobber down! My first STEELHEAD! It was only about 12", but darnit, I finally got me one! No picture because I didn't have my phone ready and I didn't want to keep her from going about her business like a good steelhead should. I feel truly blessed to have finally caught one of these beautiful fish.

This is why I rated this day a 4.

Your "steelhead" is actually a "rainbow trout", keep trying.

The main reason I thought it was a steelhead was the lack of an adipose fin. Was I wrong to assume so?

Keep at reformatory! Was out last sat tough fishing for a while. Broke off my first 3. Massive school moved in jumping on my float and playing jump rope with my Maine. People catch everywhere. Was getting frustrated. Consider myself better than ave. then it just hit landed 8 fish in a row in 45 min. Punched my card and my buddy's I was on fire. Try and be neat and precise with your presentation, pinks are practice to really refine float fishing for those steelhead. Details are everything! Best of luck
