So just had a little bit of time yesterday morning during work so snuck down under the 99 bridge to throw something in to try and get a silver. Tied on green/orange/black corkie with black and white yarn and a black soft bead with herring scent and started casting under the bridge to carry it down into the stretch. Had just spooled up my phflueger reel with some cool suffix 10lb line and was enjoying it's casting performance with I got a nice tap-tap-tug and set the hook and fish on!! Unfortunately it was a king and proceeded to freight train down river without a break and I knew I was in danger of losing all my new line so tried an old trick and opened the bail. Usually that works as once they don't feel the pressure they gradually make their way back; but not this time! He kept going so I flipped the bail shut and tried to put some pressure on but the last thing I saw was a big splash down by the rocks on the highway side of the river and my line popped and yep, he spooled me!
Oh well, just felt bad that that much line is now in the river and should have tried to break him off earlier but really thought I could get it back. Hit the Puyallup in the evening and will post that next!
