I was running some errands in SoDo Saturday afternoon and just happened to have my rod and cooler in the truck so I took a short detour and drove past the Spokane Street bridge. The bridge wasn't too busy, the tide was coming in, and I had about an hour to kill.
I started by tossing a buzz bomb from the bridge and was immediately wrapped in some guy's line. He unwrapped the lures and tossed mine back out - unluckily, right into a barnacle covered piling. One lure, one cast... After that I decided to walk out to the rocks, find some extra room, and switch to a pink P-Line Humpy jig. A few casts in I hooked into a feisty one. Got her to shore after a few jumps and runs and saw that it was a foul hook. Off she went. Tossed it out there few more times without any luck so I began heading back.
There was a surprising amount of room on the bridge so I decided to toss my jig out a few more times. Third cast and fish on. After a decent fight I got her close, saw that it was a good hookup, and pulled her up over the rail. Knife to the gill and into the cooler she went. Two filets for the smoker and some eggs to cure. Marked my card and was back to my errands in less than an hour.
