Took my cousins and my family out for some Pink action. Slow/relaxed morning got us to the launch about 9:30. My cousin's family was running later than us and there were quite a few coming in with limits so to make room at the launch we decided to run out and see if we could pick up a couple while waiting for them.
Motored about 100 yards upstream and dropped anchor. Got my wife and daughter set up and going. My 1st cast was fish on - immediately handed the rod to my daughter (she's 4) and she fought it like a champ! She reeled, my wife took video and I manned the net. The only help I gave her was a finger under the pole about 1/2 way up (it's a 10.5' ML pole). She was over the moon "WOO HOO!! I GOT DINNER DADDY! OH! IT"S A BIG ONE TOO!!". Once netted she got to bonk it and that became her new passion. The rest of the day she was in charge of bonking, and putting em in the box after I bled them. But I tell you, it's a proud moment to be marking a fish on your kids 1st salmon card!
Cousins showed up about 10:30 and the bite was on fire until the tide change, then it just died. We had 5 by that time (1:00) and tooled around until about 4 scratching out 3 more.
The most exciting point of the afternoon was playing around twitching jigs with my cousin's daughter's new mini pole. They bought it the night before so it still had whatever line was spooled when they bought it. I hooked up and played that pink for a good 10 minutes before getting it into the net. The thing had a decent drag, but I could feel the reel loose in the seat so had a death grip on it making sure it didn't fall off the pole. Fun time!!
