This was to be a Coho report, but since I didn't catch any it'd have to be rated a 1, but I caught Pinks, so am reporting it as such.
First boat trip on the lower Duwi this season for me. Got to the 1st Ave. launch about 11am. Fortunately I do not have a boat trailer, otherwise I'd have probably had to park over by I-5. As luck would have it, there was a spot just large enough to squeeze my truck in next to the launch. Finally got my boat/gear assembled (the curse of not having a trailer) and headed up river as fast as my 4hp would take me....which isn't very fast. Took me about 20 minutes to get to my destination passing many many boats both trolling and anchored along the way. Lots of fish jumping, but wasn't seeing to many being brought in. Got up near Boeing where everyone else apparently decided to go to. Now I know who owned all those parked trailers. Still better than the bank. Found a spot to parallel park and anchored up just before noon. Decided to stick with Dick Nites and target Coho. The first half hour was kind of slow with only one big Pink buck hooked, but between 12:30 and 1:30pm the Pinks started to go nuts. Hit after hit. At one point it was three casts and three fish. Things slowed down after that, but was still pretty consistent on hits. Ended up going 11/14. All Pinks. I did see a few Coho caught, but they were all taken by people trolling. Plenty of fish jumping. Fishing wasn't off the hook and no Coho, but it was still fun. Kept three chrome Pinks for the smoker. Pulled anchor at 3:30.
Ran into WL member Gwendylyn and her husband on the trip back to the launch. Nice meeting you two!
I also met some really nice people who were anchored up around me as well as one guide who was not nice, but fortunately didn't stick around the area. Not a bad trip for just a few hours.
