Another great day on the Samish with over 100 fish caught during the tide. I got started pretty late so I ended up being grateful w/a small 5 lb jack king. Bigger than most of my humpies and far nicer to eat!

People upstream are friendly, helpful and will help you catch. They mostly use jigs although I've seen fish caught on roe and spinners up there. At the mouth of the river, it's strictly egg roe. Locals at the mouth aren't friendly...If you say "good morning", the very best you'll get out of them on a good day is a gruff snort of contempt.

Actually people at the mouth are nice people and will help you catch fish I'm one of those people I was down there yesterday Sept 19 2013. I've been one of the regulars there in the mud at the mouth for 9 years now and my friend who's been fishing this fishery since it reopened 25 years ago knows that river up and down he has fished every possible spot on that river. And only time people get grumpy is when someone wades in to the water down by the mouth because that disrupts fishing for everyone in the river especially at the mouth. I heard just a few days ago someone had a couple of friends down there that didn't want to fish in the mud so they went across river and waded in the water well things were fine till one of those guys waded across the river through where the channel that the fish swim through to grab some bait well that's just not a good thing so you can't really blame the regulars who know that fishing will be disrupted that's just one of those scenerios we are nice people come and talk to us we will help you. There is things like river etiquette follow those and people won't be grumpy tight lines happy fishing

Hi WurmBobby,

Thanks for the info. While I have you on the line, how long till the locals call it quits on fishing the mouth for kings?
#2, when I went there I saw on both sides you had to pay to walk in. Is there a way to walk/wade in the area shown in the picture?

Hi WormandBobby - thanks for posting. The people that went across the river was a friend and his father who just had knee surgery. It was a bad idea to toss bait across, but things happen in life every day and the choice is to either move on to the next moment, or cling to whatever drama happened in the past. This happens to everybody in every walk of life in every circumstance...it's called LIFE. How to deal with the situation is totally up to each individual - they can be pissed off and play that card, or they can shrug it off and play that card. I'm choosing to shrug it off.
