So 7 years ago Easy Limits and I took out one of my customers nephew who was 14 at the time visiting from Switzerland and got him into some coho fishing in Elliott Bay. Yesterday I got a call from said customer stating that Andre was here again and spent 4 days in Alaska and did not catch a salmon and wondered if I had time today or tomorrow to take him fishing. Of course, I am busy but figured I could take him with me to work and if we had time would sneak down to the Duwamish and throw something out at them.
As luck would have it, I found us some time around 10:30 and made a bee line to the river by the 599 highway and found a spot where it looked fishy so threw on my waders over my work clothes and we got a spot on the river. Tide was running out at a pretty good clip so put on a about a half ounce pencil lead with a 4' leader and 2 fire tiger corkies with black yarn. Soaked the yarn in crayfish scent and casted upstream to show him how to do the drift and no sooner did it start to turn downstream had a nice tap tap and fish on! Handed the rod to Andre and he worked this feisty fish in like a pro with it making a few nice runs before getter it in the net. He was smiling ear to ear and in a very broken Swiss/English accent said "dat waz foon!!" haha
We ended up going 3 for 10 with quite a few coming unbuttoned but no coho's even though we saw a few caught~ I did put on some fresh cured eggs and had a few takes but couldn't get them to stick. I do believe I will be targeting the coho's from now on though as I know they are in and would like to get a few for the freezer.
Not sure about Saturday yet as not sure what the boss has plans for me yet but of course, if the opportunity arises I will be on the water!!
