Fished the green from 4 PM to 7:30 PM. Water level is very high. It doesn't move as fast as the Puyallup but for the green it's moving pretty quick. I got skunked. Tried casting to different places all across the river. Tried different kinds of gear set ups and different length leaders. No takers.

I did see something interesting though. A half dead black-and-white zombie salmon swam up to me and just sat right in front of me. He had orange plastic circular tags on each side of his dorsal fin. I've never seen this or heard of this before but I'm new to salmon fishing this season. I would have to assume it was tagged at the hatchery when it was born, and now it's returned home?

I'm going to give both the green and the Puyallup a few days to come back into shape before I go back out.

Try fishing close to shore when the river is high and muddy. Use good wet eggs or lots of scent. The fish will be traveling close to shore even in the weeds.

You can't use bait or scent on that section until after October 15th. I tried casting all over the river. Nada.

You can't use bait or scent because according to the regs, that section is actually closed until Nov. 1.
Keta Creek Hatchery and Crisp Creek Rearing ponds (which is now operated by the Muckelshoot Indian Tribe) are in that section and a lot of fish are heading back there. Also, Christy Creek is in Flaming Geyser State Park- which the Dick Brice rearing ponds use as the water source for the acclimation of steelhead- So. King County Chapter of TU operates these two acclimation ponds. There's a lot of reds in that section of the river right now and walking in that area will disturb and disrupt the spawning process. Just stay out of that section for a few another month ;-)
BTW- I'd head upriver of the Black Diamond/Enumclaw bridge if I were you

from the Auburn-Black Diamond Rd.

Paintermott...that's not the section I'm fishing, or referring to. I'm referring to this section...and no need to head any further up yet...there are plenty of fish still in this section. It will come back into shape over the next few days. This section will be good for a while still. And again, bait or scent isn't legal on this section until after October 15th.

most recent discharge rate for the Green (in the section I fish) is 2700 cubic ft per second. Normal discharge is usually around 500-600 so it's about 4 times faster than it normally is. Water level is also about 4 to 5 ft higher than normal.....but it's falling. Give it a few more days.

Here is the website I use. I also use this site to check on the Puyallup. I usually check both rivers a few times each day.
