Today, I explored various holes along the Green River from Kent to Auburn to practice my first day of drifting roe. I didn't get any takers with my roe, but did find this rotting king with a 'do not remove' tag and id # (see photos). Is this tag a WDFW thing, or maybe something the hatchery wants to keep tabs of? This fish was a little ways upstream from the Kent soccer fields. I also checked the pullout near Highway 18, which is now a huge graveyard of salmon! 100s of pinks and fire truck silvers swimming through with a couple of pinks still willing to bite my pink marabou jig.

About a month ago I saw lots of Kings swimming around Flaming Geyser with those tags. From what I read online they were put on the fish by Japanese out at sea. I also saw a row of fish on the bank with the tags removed, stomachs opened, and tails cut off. I assume the work of fish and wildlife... Would be interesting to see the data they collect. I've got some cured pink eggs I need to try. So far I have not landed a Coho i
n the auburn area. Good luck out there!

I got to the 18 bridge about 7am and fished until 10 with one strike on a green blue fox, but no takers on my eggs or my dick night. There were probably 10 or so fishing around the same area with no real action I saw. I saw a lot of reds parked downstream from the bridge in the water, but they didn't want anything to do with me today.

That is a carcass tag. Essentially they're used to mark and recover carcasses on spawning surveys to estimate number of dead chinook that aren't seen.

But they tag the fish while still alive, correct? I was fishing in Auburn a couple weeks ago and a fish stopped and hovered right in front of me and he had the tags and he was still alive.
