please tell me i banked some fishing karma by releasing both the fish i have pictured - a chum and a wild steelhead caught on the snoho. and does anyone know what a silver dollar size yellow spot on the belly of the steelhead would be? it looked like a paintball spot. confirmation would be appreciated.
thomas eddy was eerily quiet this morning at 8am. very few people there and some left early. river was fast and up about 6 inches. wasnt feeling the vibe. hit up the far end of douglas bar then the top end. saw one fish pulled into a boat in the middle. after going cast + snag x2 and deciding to go back to thomas eddy. stopped to help a guy land a silver and then stayed. no go on a couple dick night colors and a couple puffball & yarn options.
one hour left till sundown. switch colors. bam get a takedown while i'm busy chatting with a guy upstream. set the hook and start to reel. fish jumps then line goes limp. aww darn lost it. decide to reel in my geer. got it 20 feet away and the chum starts fighting. missed out on a chance for a good fight since he basically walked up to me. confirm its a chum with a passing angler. pic and release. 2 casts later bam another fish. he jumps way out at the apex of my drift so i knew i'd get to have some fun. finally get the guy in and what do you know, its a steelhead (i hope). wasnt sure on the regs so took 15 minutes battling my phone to download the reg book. aww darn. no wild steelhead can be kept. was a shame to let him go.
some of you may remember my last "woe is me" post. someone recognized me at douglas bar. he says, oh yer that one guy on washingtonlakes. after he went to check the end of the bar out i started laughin. yep, for today, i was "that guy" haha
