fished for dollies today on the skagit since steelhead are slow. got one bite on big silver rapala and landed one small one on a dick night that was quickly released. good day on upper sakgit. Trying to get tips for big dollies ive seen 4 n 5 lbers come out of there. Rapalas have been doin good. I guess boats are better to cover more water than waders

I got a 5lber last year on shrimp tipped jig. try catching some whitefish and cutting those into chunks or strips, dollies love whitefish, mine had a whole whitefish in its mouth and it still took my jig

All luck I've had on Dolly's are eggs and egg patterns. Go small. If using skeins, cut a dime sized chunk with 3 eggs or so on it. Beads work great as well. It's the primary food source for these things as they chase steelhead up river.

Back in the late 60s I used to fish a tributary of the Suiattle for Dollies. I could see big Dollies in there, but the first time I tried I fished most of the day unsuccessfully. Then finally caught one on a colorado spinner.
When I cleaned it (they were legal then) it had several small fish and one shrew.
The next time I went there I took some firecracker herring (orange label), They went nuts for them. From then on it was easy to catch a limit of big Dollies. I also found shrews in several of them.
I would imagine that whitefish would be a hot bait for them. Good luck and let us know how you do.
