There's nothing like watching how the day unravels; when the morning sheds her wispy dress of fog and begins to breathe forth the warming rays of first light, something magic "clicks" inside my soul, as the thought passes though my mind that "this feels right, now I remember why I'm alive." There is nothing more sweet than living in alignment with a sense of purpose.

My client, friend and angler trainee of the morning did his best, showed up in the valley, but was unable to fight past some morning sickness, so after some short goodbyes and receiving recompense, I shot off to the river (heck, I was already in the Sky Valley and the sun was shining). Steelhead will always win over sleep deprivation, hands down.

Instead, I had the privilege of meeting Michael down at the water's edge, and helping him whack out a nice chrome hen, and landing 2 more Steelies subsequent to our meeting on the river. His fish was particularly feisty with her long, adrenaline shooting runs, threateningly explosive surface encounters, and tricky boulder field "I'm not here anymore, just cut your line because I'm trying to make you think you're snagged" tactics. In the end, she met her maker. Punch one for Michael! The other two were your standard, 5 pound hatchery bucks; I'm pretty sure that hen could have crumpled both of those boys up if we tossed them all in the cage. It seems like the pink worm attracts the zesty ones.
