Hello all. Its been a while since I posted a report.
After getting skunked on steel up at the hwy side, my best buddy Justin and I decided to go down river and look around a bit. We stopped at the mouth of the Sultan and didn't see any action there, other than the 2 sheriffs across at cracker bar messing with a family having a picnic. We left and went down ben howard and stopped just below the mouth of McCoy creek, walked down the trail and started plunking with a pink tiger wing bobber with a white glow bead below that, and a pink/orange dull corky and another white glow bead below that. I rigged a whole sand shrimp and tossed it into the closest seam. 5oz wasn't enough, but I didn't have anything heavier with me so I let it drift down to a comfortable spot, and that spot ended up being in under some tree cover really tight to the bank, but way down river. Then, BAM! and I set the hook. For how hard it hit, I initially thought it was a king or some steel but it didn't fight very hard so I figured it was a whitefish. To my surprise, it was a beautiful resident rainbow. My first on the sky in all these years of fishing salmon. 15 3/8 inch and firm, orange meat. I cannot believe how much better the river fish taste than the lowland lake fish. It was amazing.
Other than that fish, we had one takedown on Justin's setup but it was off right away. Ask in all, it was a good day.
