The extended family and I rented a big cabin on the Methow River near Twisp as a nice way to close out the summer. I brought the fly rod and was eager to try my hand at hopper fishing. On each of the 3 days we were there, I ventured out on the water. For the most part, fishing was slow for me, however, one hole and only this one hole produced very well. I caught about 8 fish out of this run over 2 days on hoppers and Chernobyl Ants with the fish in the attached being the biggest. Not sure if Methow River locals consider this fish photo-worthy but it gave me a wonderful fight and I thought it was a beautiful fish. Normally, I try not to take the fish out of the water but I was so excited I had to lift this one out for a quick photo by my wife. Hoppers with an orange highlight seemed to work better.
I revisited the hole on the 3rd day and drifted dual nymph rig after dual nymph rig, in an attempt to show the fish a different presentation, without any success. Sorry about the late post but given the low number of reports for the Methow, I figured late is better than never. The weather was great and overall was a relaxing weekend. All fish were released unharmed.
Tight lines.
