I am a fishing newbie, but I got the bug! The feeling of getting hooked up with a fish on the other end of the line is intensely electrifying, wildly gratifying and scratches the pleasure sensors in my brain like very few things can.

This is my first year fishing. I came upon this site and I want dive into the community of fellow anglers.

This is my first report, but I have been out on the Snohomish about 5 times since the start of September. It has been dead....deader than a doornail. I have tried everything that I could read up on...drifting dick nites and cheaters and yarn, casting dick nites, spinners and plugs, buzz bombs, trolling plugs and even eggs under a float. Still nothing. Mind you, I am a newbie, so I am not sure if I am doing any of those right. It is getting to be a little bit frustrating, but I look at it as paying my dues. And just being on the river is great time. :)

Anyway, on to last night's report...spent a couple of hours on Shorts School Road using eggs under a float. Nothing. I saw 1 fish roll. There was a seal that decided that the fishing was so bad he got out of the water and laid on a log for about an hour.

That is it for now. I am going to try to do a write up every time I go out. Hopefully, this will help both me and you.

LOL, I am a salmon newbie and live in Snohomish. I learned there by going out with a couple of guides. I'm in my second year. Caught 19 silver keepers last year. Those over 6 lbs. The fishing on Snoho was unreal at times. This year has been as dead as the Silver fishing was in mid Sept. last year. Then it perked up out of nowhere- nowhere for me cause I had no prior experience.

I talked to everyone and read everything. The best clues came from Triangle Bait. Family owned and local. At first I didn't know dip and thought they were just trying to sell lures. Nope they were right. I saw the same stuff fished by many guys on the water.

I just got back from the Columbia around Drano Lake. Fish jumping all over the place and none of those hit anything. Took several days to see they wanted a spinning herring or Brad's cut plug with smelly inside. It was still slow and I could see the bottom lined with fish. Nobody was catching much given all the rollers and jumpers. It goes to show, they can be there all around us and we still struggle. Eventually we learn a good trick or two and get our limits. Salmon fishing is not like normal fresh water fishing. I really like the guides.

I forgot a good tip I learned - the Silvers seem to like logs as a holding spot. Some guys troll the channels and they caught fish, but I caught most of mine near wood. And close to the bank.

The SnoHo has been very slow, and with this rain may pick up but the water is still to warm for fish to bite very well. Dick nite spoons, blue fox lures, trolled plugs in 12-18' of water are all good tactics just keep at it. I would suggest hitting salt water from shore, cast a rotator with squid. See Ted's Sports Center. One hour before to one hour after high tide for the next 1-2 weeks before the river picks up. Last year a sudden cool down and flooding rain turned on the fishing big time but was end of September. October is the best normally.

Short school road is a good spot in the day to come. The mass of fish are between sekiu. And port angels so with the rain the will come down
