I had plans on hitting the Hump today with Schu7498 and husband Danny but with the lack of rain we opted out and from what I heard on the outdoor line today was a good move as it was running at only 200 today!
So with tides looking right for some early morning coho hunting decided to hit the lower Duwamish in search of chrome~ got to my spot around 6:15 and there were already quite a few people waiting for it to get light. Saw my friend Leonard there but there were already 2 people with him so he pointed out that no one had taken the spot at the end of the drift so got my stuff down there and waited for the dawn!
Started casting, drifting eggs with a piece of shrimp and a white gulp power egg on the hook and was getting some subtle hits but couldn't get one to stick~ finally on one drift felt a pretty solid take and waited for it when WHAM! Set the hook and it was fish on! This gal went crazy running across river and flipping into the air before I was able to work it close enough to go for my net. Now I am really glad no one was around to film this because as I stepped off a rock to go after my net, lost my balance and fell onto my side (never missing a beat though with the fish!) Getting up grabbed the net and when I went to net it fell again! haha! I guess the guys watching didn't have much of a sense of humor because it was the funniest thing I would have every witnessed if it was me watching instead of stumbling, but they didn't seem to notice~ anyway, finally was able to get her into the net and a nice fat hen! Yea!
Just before the tide was done, had another little jack grab my eggs and run up river before I could net it but at least kept my balance this time and didn't stumble! So not a bad day for a few hours of fishing and saw only a few caught so by no means was red hot down there. Now to head home, grab the Tin cup and hit the Big Lake!
See you on the water!
