This is a combined report from yesterday (Saturday) and today (Sunday, 10/5). Yesterday was good but not as good as Friday - lots of fish being caught but definitely a notch lower than Friday.
Today (Sun) there were far fewer fishermen, but the tide was an hour later and a little higher. Number of fish caught was down probably 80% over Saturday and 90% over Friday. Between dusk and about 8am, I hooked 3 on jigs - all three broke my 15 lb. line, so I switched to 20 and sat there for 2 hours without a bite.
Once tide went slack, I went to roe and just bottom drifted - hooked and landed a big buck on the 1st cast but he was pretty dark so I let him go. Hooked/landed another about 30 min later - another buck I wanted to let go but the roe was so far down his gullet that I got a piece of his gill when trying to take it out. It was curtains for him so I kept it - fairly decent light orange flesh...definitely good for the smoker.
Tomorrow (Mon) is probably the last day to get a king on the Samish. Tides go wonky starting Tuesday and the percentage of bright kings is down to under 20% now.
Photos are from yesterday (Saturday)
