I have been fishing the stilly since September with no luck. I am a rookie to fishing. I caught the fishing bug but I am starting to get discouraged.I have watched videos, read books and applied what I have learned and still nothing. On a positive note I have met a lot of really nice people on the river. They are very helpful however I have still not caught any fish. if there is any info anyone can share about fishing Stillaguamish River. Please do. any information will help. Thanks and tight lines.

I feel your pain. I fished the Stilly all of last year and have hit it numerous times this year without any Salmon to show for it. That being said, you probably have more info than you could possibly use on gear and techniques, so I will give you this instead. Really concentrate on the morning and evening (I'm talking around sunrise and sunset), as that always seems to be when the fish are more active. Also, as this forecasted rain moves through, really try to hit the water after the river level peaks and is dropping back into shape. That's what I am going to be trying to do. I would also encourage you to note let what I refer to as "river hypnosis" set in. The idea that if you just stay somewhere doing the same thing long enough, something will work! All of my fishing experience so far (for just about any fish) proves that this is a terrible idea. If something isn't working, either move and try another spot, change your presentation on your gear at the spot you are at, or both. And also as a side note, that this is an excuse, but know that the northern Puget Sound river Coho are just for whatever reason more difficult to catch than ones in other rivers. I don't know why that is, but most people would tell you the same thing. The people who really know what they are doing will take home fish, but the rest of us who are still figuring it out have a harder time of it. Just got to keep on trying!

Learn what works by watching the people that are successful in a particular spot. Some areas are full of jumping fish but don't really put out fish for a variety of reasons. Some areas are best fished with a spinner, spoon, corkie, etc... Watch the where and how of the people you see catching fish...

I will be at Blue Stilly this morning if you happen to be about. Blue coat and Cabelas hat. Always looking for people to fish with!

Keep at it. I have hit the stilly about 10 times this year and the skagit more than 20. I have one fish to show for my efforts. That one fish was caught on the still in the mid afternoon after throwing everything I had at a pool of jumping fish. They are hard to catch this year and are not easy to catch anyhow. I am normally there in the mornings after 10am. Be happy to have a new fishing partner.
