Yea guys this day for me is one for the books, maybe even once in a lifetime. Drove up friday night to camp along the quillayute system to hit it today. It was raining like crazy as we sat around the fire friday night. Woke up an hour before first light and lines in the water with headlamps on at maybe 6am.... no bites until about 7:30. My buddy get on a nice silver landed with no problems. 5 minutes later I get a tug so I set the hook but it completely felt like a snag up, so I real down and pull.... it was heavy!!! but moving slowly upstream.... so I pull back and it goes ape $#!+!!! Downstream for a bit then takes off up river. Note; I'm standing in waist deep water using 12# test and the fish is just pealing out line, so I hop out of the water with my friend right behind me with the net. I chased it maybe 200 yards up river and finally after 20 minutes of fighting it slid half way into our net. I run out and we both carry this fish onto shore!!! No way that happened. It's a 40lb Chinook monster biggest salmon I've ever caught! Let alone my first king in 8 years. Awesome!!!!

We fished most of the day and got 7 fish total with both my friends getting identical 20 lb kings. And the rest were nice silvers just for fun. Does anyone know a good place to mount this fish?

A nice couple of weekends for us as it just takes a bit of rain to bring them in.

Nice fish indeed! If you get a chance since you have a GREAT photo of this fish it might sound like a reach try this website:
www.advancedtaxidermy.com The company is out of Ontario Canada they do REMARKABLE replica work and I have a few fish done by them and love their work. Saw a few fish done by at lodges in Alaska and used them ever since! Quick turn around time to and remarkably reasonable! I have a few skin mounts of large rainbows and large brown trout too and they don't compare! Good Luck and NICE fish :-)

That's awesome dude..... Yes... go the replica direction. There is a taxidermy in Washington called Black Water Trading .com They do the finest art work and natural fish colors that I've seen. If you've ever been to Sportco you will see their work on the wall by Customer Service whereby they have a huge wall display of 2 wild steelhead. Very awesome and pretty. You're looking at paying $500 - $2,000 depending on the scenery you want etc. They also have about 1 year preparation time.... so it is a slow process... but they have beautiful work. If you love that salmon like you say.....they can make that fish look exactly the way you caught him and paint him exactly the way you remember him.... try them. Congratulations on your fish! I'll be out there in 2 days myself weather permitting.

Nice fish. Curious how you came up with 40lbs? Was it weighed on a scale or did you use a Weight Calculator?

Doesn't look like a 40lb fish.

Thanks everyone for all the great advice. The official weight of this fish was right at 32 lbs
after being cleaned. So high 30's....I just like saying 40, buy the end of the today other fisherman were talking about a 50 pounder being caught that morning. Everyone exaggerates!
