Woke up to the sound of rain pounding on my roof, oh boy going to be a wet day on the river. Managed to roll out and after a shot of coffee I was on my way to meet my guys on the Cowlitz at Blue creek.
We hooked up the first run through clay banks side drifting eggs and landed a nice bright 6 pound hatchery steelhead.
The next fish came two hole below this to eggs and a orange fish pill in the middle of the river of all places. This fish came high out of the water and was in the low teens. It took us down into the shallow water and then freaked
running every which way before jumping again spitting the hooks. Crap!
We tried side drifting all the way to Mission and pulled plugs too. Nothing more until we went above the Blue Creek ramp and side drifted eggs and whamo in the heavy fast water we hooked up with another good fish. It weighed around 8 lbs with a touch of color.
We were all soaked and shriveled up, so it was time to hit the ramp and head out. Not bad but there were not many caught today. Lots of boats and people fishing today even though it was raining hard off and on most the
day.
Still waiting for the B run to get in strong.
Water 45.2 degrees at 5,000 cfs with 4 feet of visibility
weather raining , crowded, side drifting eggs was key today.
Fishing the Columbia River, Cowlitz River, Chehalis River, Wind River, Drano Lake, and Lake Merwin for salmon, steelhead, and kokanee.
