Opening day! Got to Tualco at 6am, walked up river to the top of the run and worked my way through swinging an intruder, had no takes to that fly. I changed my leader for a sink tip and put a size 5 traditional fly on and hiked back up to the top of the run. Got a few tugs but, couldn't seem to find an anchor. Decided I'd go at this run one more time, and about half way down a guide came through, side driftin' 5 or 6 rods with what looked like sand shrimp, and netted a really nice steelhead right in front of me, looked like a hen.... Water is definitely low, but it did look good, little bit of color to it. That was the only fish I saw get hooked out of about 8 bank anglers and probably 6 boats that were working their way through. All in all it was a good day, just glad to have gotten out! Sad to hear about the chinook closure tho.
