Ok folks, not a big poster, but share experiences when appropriate. I toured the river from Cable on Hatch side up through intake on Monday and Tuesday and fished Proctor Creek area Monday. Let me first say I met a lot of nice folks cause I avoided the scrum opposite Hatchery at 5 am ( we drove up and 60 cars then) and at the hatchery . We started Monday at Proctor area, beautiful water, but no big fish, smolts only. Threw everything at them, mostly spoons from me , but bobber/ jigs bait, etc from my friends.
Later Monday took my out of town friends for a walking tour upriver, no fish but great scenery. I heard on Monday of maybe 40-50 fish caught at Reiter, last year 150-200 reported, low water is tough! The vibe in several popular areas was folks not real sporting, lots of comp for spots, etc. guys, this could be the future of our sport, think about it- be considerate to your fellow fisherman. I fished the fringes and met great guys all over, we know we will catch fish at some point and being cool to others, not making a bid friggin mess is what it is all about. Pick up, take line home , help others land fish.
Unfortunately, BNSF is taking another parking location off our list, ticketing on highway side ( or so I was told) anyone experience this?
Bottom line, if you just read a couple reports you don't learn much, the best advice for new folks is get out there, be considerate and learn, it takes a lot of years and experience to catch a lot of fish. I was fortunate on Monday afternoon to land a hot buck on a spoon, and doubly fortunate that it did not get too far down river and bother others.
I see us all getting forced into smaller areas to fish, love reading reports from the lower river. My guess is I walked probably 2 miles or more to catch one fish, there is a ton of beautiful water on the Sky, take advantage of all of it. I got my fish near cover, not in the front of the hatchery , tight lines
