Entertaining hour or two on the lower river. Decided to go out and toss some hardware in the lower Sky near Monroe . Saw many cars parked, found out none of them were fishing. Nice folks pounding beer and hanging by the river, swimming ,etc. oh yeah and slightly upriver, naked guys camped on the opposite shore-no idea what was going on there, but I managed to coerce a 12" steelhead jack (hatchery) out of the hole right in front of their "campsite".
Fished a 3/4 mile area without much success , but got to watch "jet ski guy" tear up the holding spots and as a bonus circle a couple of young gals on rafts multiple times. All very entertaining.
Found one more spot before I left and tossed my spoon in a slack area between two seams, bam, I would have thought it was a salmon ( small one) as it fought quite hard for a small fish, went nuts. Got it in and it was a 12" native steelhead, awesome color, there are so few areas to hold where I was fishing was glad to have any action, but cool to see an awesome fish and I let it go and moved on to the pursuit of a cold beer .
Probably the worst time of the day to fish, but nice to hike a bit and find a couple spots fish may hold in better times of the day. After all, they all have to move past the area I was at sometime. The upside is learning the structure of the area I was in as I will fish it again in higher water.
