Well I was able to run a week or so of Skagit springer trips before I leave for Alaska. Figured id throw up a quick report and outlook for the fall salmon season as well!
First off, Skagit springers... Been pretty tough! Ive been finding decent fishing considering the river is seeing virtually zero snowmelt and flows are already summer low... Springers are picky in the best conditions... And this low water sure hasnt made things easier. However, we've been able to find at least one good chance a day, with three being our top day this week. For some reason, lots have been "wild" (unclipped hatchery fish) we have had to release. Still fun! If you head up to the Skagit/Cascade area to try for a Springer, the fish are there! But picky. Bring good quality eggs, add sandshrimp tails, use small presentations and get there at first light, you may just have a chance to tie into one of the large springers thr Skagit/Cascade is known for. Check out a few photos of our fish this week I attached...
I am fishing 2 more days, then heading to Alaska yet again to guide the Nushagak River for king salmon! This fall should be another stellar coho year with large runs again expected to return to Puget Sound and Coastal Rivers. I will be guiding the Skagit September 1-October 31st. Then, for those of you eager to experience coastal coho/chinook madness, where the fish run bigger and brighter, I will be spending most of November/early December on one of many WA coastal rivers.
If your interested in a trip of a lifetime, get ahold of me, and dont wait till the last minute. Come August, I usually recieve the bulk of my bookings and am often relatively full by the end of August. If youd like to get ahold of me to book a trip while im in Alaska (June 15-July 20)... Any time after July 20, shoot me an email or phone call and we can setup something for what were hoping will be another stellar fall salmon season. I hope everyone has a great summer, and I look forward to seeing you on the river this Fall. Tight lines and be safe everyone!
