This was my first attempt at Skagit Sockeye. I've been following reports and had an idea what to use. Paired an old eagle claw mooching rod with a penn 209 loaded with 20 lb mono. Tied on a three way swivel and 3 ft leader with #6 orange spin n glow with sand shrimp on size 1/0 red gamakatsu hook with three red beads between hook and lure. Kokanee Sockeye dip and mikes shrimp oil put on bait. Dropper with 3 ounce pyramid lead.
I fished three different locations along the South Skagit Highway. Had a few small bites, but felt like small fish. Talked to couple different checkers....only fish I heard of being caught were at Youngs Bar in the morning. Pretty slow overall. I didn't see anybody else with fish. Talked to one guy towing a sled...no luck for them.
Beautiful day out! Better than working and I'll be back soon to try again. ON the way home, I finally figured out how to get to Youngs Bar so I'll try that next. I also may switch over to sliding lead setup.
