We got to the river at low tide and saw a large one swim past us within the first 15 minutes. Caught a small bright pink (maybe 1.5 lbs) on a pink buzz bomb and let it go.
Another BIG salmon (not sure of species) followed my pink dick nite in, but didn't take it.
Overall a zero for kept fish, but excited we landed one and gives me hopes they are finally starting upstream

Nice to see some fish in the river. Odd thing is they've been here awhile; I saw a ton of colored up humpies up by sultan. Wonder why they shot up there so early.

wow....up in the Sultan?! That is damn early. @ Pat, were you fishing about a mile below highway 9 or so? I checked out a potential access spot, but saw a sign saying spot was for club members only. There is an obvious large gravel parking area on the south side of the road. Sign at gate was faded and old so not sure if that still applies, but I've been fishing downstream at the pullouts area and Rotary. Saw a damn sea lion tonight!

most everything in nature happened early this year so it stands to reason fish runs could be early to. Are you sure they pinks up by sultan or old kings?

Hey, I was just wondering how you set up your dick nite spoon. I bought a few today after reading your report but I dont know how to set them up since they are pretty lightweight. Thanks!

I rig mine with two to three feet of 8 lb max ultragreen leader tied to an inline weight like you use in float fishing. Typically, I will use the quarter ounce size. Tie that you your mainline. I like this for slower water and casting and retrieving.

You could also rig it like fixed lead drift fishing and drift it if there is enough current. Others have actually drifted these lures under a float. I've never tried this though.

Change out the hook. It's crap. I put on a good gamakatsu siwash hook. Size 6 for size 2 nites, size 8 for size 1 and for the smallest ones, size 10.
