I spent countless hours trying to get my first salmon from last year all in Duwamish river, but was unsuccessful. However, on my second day on Puyallup river, I got my first salmon and actually hit limit today. It was 3 pinks and a silver. I lost about 10 fish because I didn't have a net and don't know how to handle the salmon properly with 8lb lines (got it near my legs, then break the line near the knot). Once my friend show up with a net, I hit my limit after a few hours. I also lost a very big salmon, which could swim against the current so fast and took up so much line. I'm not too sure if what kind of that salmon, but I lost it after about 30 seconds.
I was drifting yarn and corky with about 3.5 - 4 feet leader and 0.5oz sinker to make it easier to cast because i'm kind of short. It seem that this is the best setup I has so far. I tried with different leader lengths and weights, but couldn't get a single fish until now. I can detect the bite/bouncing on rock better now after got hit so many times today. All in the fish I hooked were in the mouth.
