Another day out on the Skagit. Took the boy and a friend out. Got there around 830am on the MV sandbar. We passed by all the shrimpers on the way to the money hole and saw no fish on the bank. I started out with a pink n white dicknite for about 15 casts until I surrendered that to the river gods (log). 2 casts later lost my brand new nickle n chartreuse dick nite.
Thats it, moving down to a different spot. We ventured down about 50yds or so below another guy and 2nd cast got nailed on a Nickle n Green tipped medium dick nite. got a nice buck, clonked and carded him. Next cast hooked n lost 1 almost immediately. Next cast hooked n landed a nice hen, pretty darn chrome.
Needless to say this action went on for another 45mins. Fish on every other cast. I bonked n carded 5 for the smoker, lost about 5 or so and released countless others. Got the boy to get on the reel a few times, he sure was really loving this action, although mostly I think he just liked Bonking them on the head once we got them on shore. Made sure to give him the life lesson talk as to why we bonk them to make it so they dont suffer etc. Dont want him going around bonking everything in the head with sticks!!
Anyways again the Dick nite prevailed. Got the ever so satisfying glares during my walk back past the shrimpers who had been there for hours with my full stringer straining to stay off the ground til we got to the truck.
Best of luck to all,
-Casey
