I have to rate this a 1, because no fish were caught, but it sure was a unique and interesting day. I had a female friend join me for some fishing at Thomas Eddie. I wanted to get some exercise and challenge my companion a bit. Low tide was expected at about 11:30am. We arrived at 9:00am to find the parking lot overflowing way out on the street. No surprise really for that time of the day. It is ridiculous how many people fish there. We hit the trail and hiked clear to the west end of the park. The beach was all ours for about an hour, which was pretty magical and unexpected. It was calm and partly sunny. I fished the area for two hours with buzz bombs, hoochie, shrimp, dick nite, jigs, but not a bite. There were a few tiny bait fish that had colors of a perch. I really expected better, based upon the reports. Two young guys came by and mentioned that there were a lot of fish holding upstream. We looked at each other and wondered why they were down the river, if their story was true...? After a short lunch break, we went to check it out. Sure enough, there were quite a few fish rolling, jumping and fishermen reeling them in! The two young guys showed up, joined us, and proceeded to put on a clinic of how to catch humpies. 30 minutes, 4 fish, while we caught none. Slow retrieval of a 50/50 dick nite was the successful technique. I changed up my setup to match, but two little, too late. The bite fell off for most everybody, and the wind kicked up to gusts that I am estimating to be 60-80mph! Branches were cracking and falling down with leaves all around us and across the river. There was a thick line formed on the river of fallen debris such that you could not make a cast beyond it without hooking up the mess. Argggg! I switched to using a bobber to find some clean time on the water and it was *un-reel* how far I could cast it with the wind!! The trees above us started making scary cracks and motions, so an evacuation procedure was immediately implemented and performed by several of us. Sad to leave without a fish, and annoying that others were catching, but we were not. Ryan Hung, I believe the "river curse" has again taken hold of me. I may need your help.
