returned to a much loved spot downriver from the 522 bridge that was too droughted-out earlier this season to be viable. drifted a dick nite 50/50 and then a nickel and limited out in under three hours, including some lost, many bites, a couple of mussels, and a good log or two. bright sun, temperature rising, and the bite was still consistent with boiling all over the place. fish were less chromed than further downstream toward rotary and cady parks, but the meat was good and the fight spirited. i didn't post three days ago, but i included pictures of the catch around the railroad trestle in downtown snohomish. fish were very peppy, sea-lice and all, netted from kayak!
my only issue, and it's an important one, was a host of bank fishers outside of the mobile park on Elliott Road. there were a bunch of adolescent boys and a few adults seriously snagging fish. i saw over 30 pulled in with a long cast/hard yank kind of technique. i'm sure there weren't licenses, i'm certain no daily limit was respected. the boys were hauling one onto the gravel bar every 5 minutes or so. there's a trough right off shore where a lot of more fatigued pinks hold, and it seems like a sure bet dragging a treble hook through the school. has anyone witnessed and reported this? i'll do so tomorrow, but i reckon it's like this in a lot of places and the response is minimal. it's a shame to see that on the river when you're trying diligently to finesse a fish onto your line. almost makes the whole affair seem absurd. anyway, good luck to all!
