Giving this a 3 star day despite only catching 1 fish since the tide conditions were not ideal. Got to the river at 7am and flung a purple and pink marabou jig with a bit of shrimp on the hook for an hour with no luck. The tide was super high and the water moving very fast, and not a fish to be seen jumping. Around 8am fish started to jump a bit. I switched to a green marabou and lost it on a snag. Then I put on a black and purple jig and promptly threw it right into a tree like a moron and snapped it off. After losing two expensive jigs in 5 minutes and the conditions, my hopes of catching a fish were not very high, so I just tied on a pink humpy jig with some shrimp on the hook hoping to catch a late humpy. First cast and wham, a 15 inch silver jack! Threw the humpy jig for another 30 minutes with no luck. Seems like adding shrimp to the hook is making the difference for me this week. The coho can't resist that delicious Kroger branded shrimp! Also, if I hadn't lost my purple jig in a tree I never would have even tried the humpy jig. Just goes to show you, fishing is 50% skill, 50% dumb luck.

Well upon further inspection, that's not a silver jack, it's actually a really late, and really small pink. I didn't even think to check since it was so chrome. I looked at another pic I took and could see the spots on the tail, the fish was super bright though for this time of year. No wonder I caught it on the humpy jig! Oh well. Definitely need work on my fish identifying skills.

Other than the tail, the tiny scales and the lack of sharp teeth are another indicator.

very bright pink indeed. does it matter what shrimp to put on the hook? will there be any difference between sand shrimp and a piece of shrimp from QFC?

I've never used sand shrimp, but I imagine adding some flavor to the jig (sand shrimp or qfc shrimp) will have the same effect. Then again, it could be totally my sweet jigging technique, but just letting y'all know what's been working for me! Seems to have made a difference given the less than ideal conditions.
