I had some free time today so I drove around trying to find someplace that wasn't full of people. Finally found a nice spot with no one around and started fishing for that elusive first coho. I didn't have much gear to speak of so I tried using whatever I could find in my bag. This is my second year trying for a coho and my second attempt this year.
After about 45 minutes I tied on a Black/Purple Marabou jig that I found in my bag and added some herring scent. Three casts later and it was Fish On! He made several jumps and rolls as I tried to bring him in. It took me a couple minutes to get him in close enough to net. Whenever the net got anywhere near the fish it suddenly sprang to life and would try to swim off. Eventually I got him in the net (after falling on my ass) and got my first coho! I'm not sure how much he weighed but he was a good size larger than any pink salmon I ever caught.
I made a couple more casts after that but decided that I was fine with just the one fish so I packed up and called it a day. I gave this report a 5 because I wasn't out long and caught a coho.
