Looking to go 3 days in a row I got to the usual spot in middle of river around 6:30 and cast out when light enough. Bites not as plentiful as yesterday but did get a couple of jacks again. Released those and moved a bit downstream and cast further. Waiting, waiting then bang a big strike which I set and started reeling. The line goes slack and I thought I’d lost it so start reeling in to refresh the eggs. But wait, whack, the fish is still on –YAY! Put up a decent fight then slid him up the beach.
Fished with limited bites for another hour then decided to go to work. Threw a cast out on the way back to the bank exit point where I saw a guy catch one yesterday, you know, 1 more cast. Waited, snagged a log, got it free then BAM, fish on. She was a great fighter taking line for 5 mins and running circles around me when I got her close. A friendly neighbour took pity on me and netted her. Beauty of a hen, not huge at 24.5” but nice and fat over the back. Headed to work happy.
Fishing on same setup, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Bumping eggs on a weight, no float. I wanted to try the float or corkies but since my technique is working I didn’t want to risk coming up short. Maybe when I run out of eggs I’ll try the corkie.
Tight lines all!
