Made it out before first light on Friday. Walked out past the rocks, onto the beach, and ran into another angler named Darren who I walked out with to a spot his friend knew near Thomas Eddy.
His first cast was fish on, which he C&R's due to its size. He landed two more of those then alternately landed keepers and C&Rs until he limited out about two hours in.
I fished within 20 feet of him, both of us with bobber and egg. He was between 3-5' deep on Fire Cure eggs. I ran a foot or so deeper on eggs a buddy gave me and caught the bottom logs more than fish. Shortened up, and then I just missed fish, so at least the eggs worked, along with the 'just cured in borax' eggs I made.
Bottom line: I learned a lot. Smaller egg clumps (nickel to quarter size v. golfball size), use a longer rod (I started on, and missed a lot of fish (at least 6) and therefore eggs, on my 7', so I'll be using my 9'6" spinner until I bring my 10'6" baitcaster up), and keep a tendered, tight line.
All that said, Thomas Eddy is crazy busy. I packed out a bag of trash too.
Happy hunting gentlemen.
