This is an addendum to the Bitter Lake submission. It's a hard luck fish story for sure. I'm adding it to the Snohomish River since that's where I catch the majority of my fish.
A lot of you that read my posts know how much I love to fish and how much I go when the season is cranking. I caught a good share of pinks and a couple of coho as well as trout and triploids.
I have a 64 foot chest freezer and it's stored at my next door neighbor's garage (we share a driveway) since it's too big a freezer for my carport. The deal is he stores the freezer, pays the electricity (about $40/year) and gets half the freezer for his own use and can take salmon whenever he wants.
Anyhow - I had about 80 pounds of salmon along with frozen turkey, ham, hamburger, sausage...etc. My neighbor's son just turned 18 and graduated in June. He's kind of going down a 'lost path' not sure what he wants to do, not working, wearing his pants down around his knees and smoking cigarettes...basically turning into a hoodlum while his single dad is working 2 jobs. He had a party late on Wednesday the 28th of October and unplugged the freezer to plug in his iphone or something. Needless to say, you can all guess where this story is going - the freezer didn't get plugged back in and I found everything thawed on Monday when I went to put my cleaned fish from Bitter Lake in the freezer. I lost my entire stock of salmon as well as my other meats. About $1500 worth!
I made the boy help me clean the mess, take it all to the dump and pay for the dump run. He seemed sincerely sorry but sorry only goes so far when you have a catastrophe like this!
If anybody out feels like they want to donate a pink or coho fillet - that would be awesome as I have nothing now for holiday gifts! :(
