Got to the Reiter ponds around 12:30, nice to see some spots that I could move into without bothering people around me. Folks that were there were very cool, and great day fishing just from that simple fact. Fished a 1/16 oz jig under a float, switched colors and missed a couple soft take downs etc. for 1.5 hours. Around 1:30 saw Reel Priorities and one of their clients hooked up with a nice hatchery fish on the HWY side, which gave me hope. Switched to a 2/5 oz BC steel spoon - brass, and on 3rd cast on seam below the rock, fish on. Good fight until a chip in the eye at the tip of my rod sheered my braided line and the fish was gone. Didn't realize the cause of the broken line until a few days later. Re-tied a new snap swivel and spoon on, and worked the seams again for another 30 minutes. Decided to head up stream towards Index. Initially tried float fishing for about 20 minutes, then went back to what had just worked down stream at Reiter. Used a different rod than at Reiter, and roughly 3rd cast, fought and landed a nice 30+ inch Native, released without removing from the water, and feeling great about the day. Worked a bit further down stream, and 10 casts later, nice 27.5" hatchery hen - beautiful chrome and that fantastic rainbow coloring.
For me this was an awesome day...was off the river by 3:30, and loved every minute of it.
