Went up to the Samish river today hoping to get some early running Kings. got up to thomas road around 0600 and caught the first light of day. Began drifting eggs under a bobber. We received multiple hits from bulltrout but nothing from the kings. Saw a total of 2 fish jump/roll all day. Still a nice day out! Have fun!

Was there a lot of people there? Is there a spot for drifting corky and yarn?

Well sounds like theres a couple fish there. Usually doesn't get hot till Sept-Oct. The Samish takes combat fishing to a whole new level! haha Usually I see it improving after a big rain storm Late Aug/Early Sept. Good luck out there to all and if you dont have patience or dont like fishing in crowds this is not the river for you, at least near the mouth of the river. Go get em!

Up by Thomas road there are not typically that many people, when compared to the flocks of the lower river and by the mouth. There are plenty of good drifting slots across this stretch of river as there wasn't any combat fishing. One of the perks of upper river!

Yeah this year I have been looking for more spots on the upper parts of the river on google maps. Might do some hiking along the rivers to find some less combative fishing. Also the whole use a 1oz jig and sit thing is pretty crappy "fishing". I have had many bites with corkie/yarn out there as well.

I have never fished the Samish. I have Aug 14-20 off, and had to stick close to home for a possible early delivery of my new fishing buddy. (was headed to Nootka sound on Vancouver Island next week) I am certainly ok with combat fishing as long as those around are too. Ive started doing some research. From the sounds of it the spots worth while are pay to play? Hiking the river means in the river and not on the land? I figured Tuesday I would do more scouting then fishing, and depending what I find, hit it good Wed, and Thursday.
