I got stuck in traffic, but somehow I still made it in time to get in about an hour and a half of fishing before it got too dark. The season is definitely changing quickly, and I could feel the coolness as the evening swept in.
There was one other person fishing off the bank and even though I didn't get a single bite, it looked like he was doing quite well. I saw him hook and lose about 3 fish before he landed a really pretty silver 4-5 pound HEN.
Fish were rolling EVERYWHERE - even about 10 feet in front of me! My fellow fisherman and I had a brief conversation about how frustrating it is sometimes when the fish are rolling, and you can literally see the whites of their eyes as they jump out of the water - yet the bites never seem to be there.
A boat passed us by with a small mixed group of men and women. The women decided to brashly yell out at us that they had 2 fish in the boat - in a bragging sort of way. good for them!
Again, as far as gear I threw everything I had in the box at them. I had Steelhead jigs, plastic jigs, buzz bombs, blue spinners, crank-baits, twitch baits...literally everything I had. My shore-partner (who was getting all the strikes) was tossing a simple Mepps spinner that had a bright orange body - one that I hadn't seen before and googled when I got home. Turns out it was a Mepps Longcast.
All in all no fish for me, but hey it sure beats sitting in traffic.
tight lines!
